Main Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of this position is to investigate complaints to the Maryland Board of Nursing regarding a potential breach of the standards of nursing practice as they relate to violations of the Nurse Practice Act. This is a major component in fulfilling our mission of protecting the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience:  None

NOTE:

1.  Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse may be substituted for the Education requirement.

2.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing specialty codes in the inspection of health care facilities and program field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should have clinical nursing experience in at least two areas of nursing with demonstrated experience in preparation of detailed and organized chronologies (utilization review, quality assurance, nursing risk management or legal/forensic nursing); experience in investigative interviews, demonstrated ability to analyze information extracted from a multitude of records, and succinctly document findings. Must have excellent organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage schedules and set priorities.  Must maintain high level of confidentiality, ethics and integrity.  Must have excellent interpersonal and professional presentation skills, in both written and oral communication, and have the ability to communicate well with individuals from various social educational, professional and ethic backgrounds. Preference will be given to those candidates who hold a graduate degree and/or who are multilingual.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.  Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing.  A copy of your license must be attached to your application.

2.  Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application. BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
