Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of the position of the Quality Improvement/Infectious Disease Nurse is to monitor the contractual requirements for the delivery of health care to inmates/detainees throughout Department Of public Safety & Correctional Services (DPSCS) correctional facilities while maintaining control of infectious disease issues including appropriate housing, infirmary care, isolation, panel reviews, and oversight of treatment.

POSITION DUTIES

Develops Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services( DPSCS) audit tools and annual audit calendar and reviews and approves vendor audit tools annually and as needed.

Completes audits following Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services( DPSCS) policies and established calendar and submits reports on finding.

Visits at least one facility site each month for “walk-around” audits with Area Contract Operation Manager (ACOM) or alone and submits findings via verbal or written report as agreed upon in each instance.

Supervises other Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services (DPSCS) CQI nurses and collates and reports all CQI audits.

Leads other nurses  in the development, evaluation, testing, and implementation of new audit tools based on annual review and evaluation of Department of Public Safety & Correctional (DPSCS) policies and procedures.

Assumes a role in a specific infectious or chronic disease program in compliance with Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services (DPSCS) policies and procedures and maintain data, prepares reports as requested by the Director of Nursing( DON).

Acts as liaison to other State Departments for infectious disease issues and/or information sharing as needed for inmate quality of care and continuity of care matters.

Provides other duties as necessary and/or assigned.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experiences as a Registered Nurse including two years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.

Notes:1. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity may be substituted for the required education.

2. A PhD in Nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
