Main Purpose of Job

The Regional Registered Nurse Manager is responsible for providing supervision and leadership to the Nursing staff at the assigned DJS facilities. The position has the responsibility for assuring that Somatic Health services are implemented and delivered according to DJS policy and other agency protocols.

POSITION DUTIES

The Regional Registered Nurse (RN) Manager will be responsible for managing the work performance of Nursing Supervisors, Registered Nurses (RN), and other Health Services personnel who are located across multiple DJS facilities. The Regional Registered Nurse (RN) Manager will direct, coordinate, and supervise the activities of Somatic Health and triage health services provided to the DJS youth detainees at assigned facilities. 

The Regional Registered Nurse (RN) Manager will assist the Department in the comprehensive data collection, coordination, and implementation of the Somatic Health quality assurance system. As a Regional RN Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the composition and submission of medical reports for increased accountability of Somatic Health Services.

The Regional RN Manager will act as a liaison between the Director of Nursing and Health Administrator, which will include providing an in-depth review of Operational Procedure Manuals for Somatic Health.

The Regional Registered Nurse (RN) Manager will be expected to adhere to an on-call 24 hours/7 days a week work schedule. The incumbent will be responsible for traveling to various regional work sites to perform job duties accordingly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include two years in the option for which application is made and one year in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity.

Notes:

1. A Master's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the option for which application is made may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

2. Six years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include three years in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity in the option for which application is made may be substituted for the Education and Experience requirements.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who possess at least one year of work experience coordinating and supervising across multiple work sites/locations are highly desired.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Candidates must be willing to travel region-wide to assist at other worksites when need and/or directed by the Director of Nursing or Health Service Administrator.

Candidates must be willing to adhere to an On-Call work schedule that consists of 24 hours/7 days a week accessibility to the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
