LOCATION OF POSITION

DHMH/Spring Grove Hospital Center, Rehabilitation Services Unit, Catonsville, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide work placement, work training and work adjustment services to mentally ill patients of the Spring Grove Hospital Center (SGHC). This position will place clients throughout the campus and/or assigns them to perform tasks within specific departments. This position may also assist clients in developing basic job readiness and acceptable work habits and/or behaviors as well as provide insight into what specific areas of job performance must be improved in order to be more valuable in the job market. This position does not supervise, but will lead a group of clients/patients and assists in the placement of job assignments/duties readying them to return back to the community. This position will receive general supervision from the Work Adjustment Coordinator, Rehabilitation Director/Administrator or designee. This position is considered an Emergency Essential position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credits from an accredited college or university with at least 15 credits in health services, human services, education or the behavioral sciences. ***Please be sure to submit a copy of your official/unofficial transcripts with your completed application.***

Experience: Two years of experience providing work placement, work training, and work adjustment services to mentally ill patients or developmentally disabled clients in a pre-vocational development program.

Note:

1. Applicants may substitute two additional years of experience as defined above for the required college credits.

2. Applicants may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in Vocational Counseling or closely related field for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Career Counseling and Advisor classifications or Career Counseling and Advisor specialty codes in the Counseling field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in some positions may be required to operate vehicles which require a Class C motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. The appropriate motor vehicle operator’s license will be required.

3. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
