LOCATION OF POSITION

The Department of Housing and Community Development's Headquarters Office is located in Prince George's County at 7800 Harkins Road, Lanham, MD across from the New Carrolton Metro stop.

POSITION DUTIES

The Loan Insurance Underwriter Assistant is a high- proficiency level skilled employee assisting in the coordination and completion of mortgage loan related tasks and interacting with internal and external entities and stakeholders to facilitate and/or perform all required Single Family Compliance functions relating to mortgage loans, and other duties and responsibilities within the Single Family Operations unit of the Division of Credit Assurance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience providing administrative or clerical support in a housing program or lending operation.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as described may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. A certificate in Housing Finance and Development from the University of Maryland may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Additional education at an accredited institution of higher education in real estate, business administration, or banking may be substituted for the required experience at a rate of 30 credits for one year.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in the Loan Specialist classification series or Loan Specialist specialty codes on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience reviewing, assessing, and completing application practices and documents for mortgage loan and mortgage insurance.

Experience reviewing, assessing, and completing lending forms and loan closing documents and transcripts.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience related to the requirements of the position. You will be required to complete a qualifications supplement, and the rating is based on your application. BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
