Main Purpose of Job

The incumbent will assist the Regional Administrator, who is the primary representative of the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services System (MIEMSS) at the regional level, in the coordination of a multi-county system of  Emergency Medical Services. Assists with programmatic, administrative and analytical support to the Regional EMS Advisory Council, and serves as a resource / consultant to county governments in the planning and operation of EMS.

POSITION DUTIES

Incumbent will assists in the implementation and ongoing management of MIEMSS programs and special projects as assigned by the Regional Administrator (RA). At the direction of the RA serve as the primary MIEMSS representative to local EMS programs, local government and elected officials, state, and federal government, hospital and healthcare administration and educational institutions, etc.

 Assist in the distribution and execution of grants related to EMS planning and operation. 

On call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to significant emergency incidents, staff the State Emergency Operations Center, and assist with Intra and Interstate mutual aid to represent MIEMSS and assist in resource coordination with local responders.

Support the efforts of the RA to establish and maintain an environment through which EMS and other disciplines such as Public Health, Hospitals, Long Term Care Facilities, Emergency Management and other healthcare and Emergency Response partners may cooperate to achieve common goals and maintain high quality patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of administrative experience in a health, emergency medical services, public administration, public safety or related field.

Note: 1. Applicants may substitute additional administrative experience in a health, emergency medical services, public administration, public safety or related field on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Emergency Management classifications or Emergency Management specialty codes in the Emergency Management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current EMT, EMT-I, Paramedic, RN, PA, or higher credential in any state or national certification

Experience leading training courses

Customer service experience

Experience writing plans, reports, and policies

Experience managing services or programs for an Emergency Service or Emergency Management Agency

Experience responding to large emergency response incidents

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Employees who do not possess EMT A certification must successfully complete the EMT A course within one year of appointment. Employees must maintain their certification as required by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services.

Employees in this classification may be required to provide the agency with a telephone number at which they can be reached, or carry an electronic pager.
