Main Purpose of Job

This position involves the analysis, design, development, maintenance and administration of database management systems at the Public Service Commission. In the capacity, work context comprises WordPress, Coldfusion and Microsoft Access database systems. Regularly evaluates feasibility, requirements and specifications for prospective database candidates. Conducts implementation (high and low level design), testing, maintenance and change control procedures for PSC relational database management systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in database management systems.

Experience:

One year of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers.

Notes:

1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate plus thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology-related field to include course work in database management systems may be substituted for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one additional year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers may be substituted for the required education.

3. Experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for high school education on a year-for-year basis.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Database Administration classifications or Database Administration specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

One year of work experience implementing, administering and working with enterprise relational database management systems (Oracle or SQL). 

A Master's degree in a Computer Science or related field (Computer Technology, Management Information Systems, etc.).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached or will be furnished with a pager.
