Main Purpose of Job

The IT Technical Engineer will need to perform a range of tasks assisting in data conversion, ETL operations and support of development and data conversion environments. The successful candidate will work within the technical solutions group of the CCU Modernization Team troubleshooting a java based core application, Debt Manager, which uses SQL 2012 R2, SOAP and REST to communicate with ancillary software and equipment running in a Windows 2012 R2 operating system. These other applications include Windows JBOSS, Hyland Onbase and Noble Telephony applications including IVR running over a VOIP network. The selected candidate will need to quickly learn to operate newly developed applications, report on the results and bring any anomalies to the attention of a developer. The selected candidate will assist in trouble shooting by reading log files, writing simple scripts or verifying data accuracy. It is expected the candidate will learn as demands change.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology.

Experience: Three years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software.

Notes:

1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology may be substituted for the required education.

 2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one additional year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software may be substituted for the required education.

 3. Experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output to process data on computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for high school education on a year- for-year basis.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Work experience in either a financial development or production information system environment

Work experience with ETL (preferably Actian or Kettle), Windows operating system, Active Directory, SQL 2012 R2 and device integration

Work experience with REST, SOAP, XML and/or JSON

Job scheduling experience using programs such as Control M

Work experience using VOIP Telephony systems and/or Hyland Onbase

Simple Scripting experience

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
