DHMH/Division of Cost Accounting and Reimbursements, Reimbursements Unit, Baltimore, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to supervise the Division of Reimbursements’ Central Office, Insurance Unit, which processes bills and collects revenue from Health Maintenance Organizations, Commercial, and Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance carriers for services rendered at State Facilities. These facilities would include: five psychiatric facilities, two residential treatment facilities, two chronic facilities, two developmentally disabled facilities, and two skilled nursing care facilities. This position will work to develop, modify, and implement policies/procedures relating to all Insurance Managed Care issues. The bills processed by the Unit are received from all of the Financial Agent Offices, located throughout the State.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience reconciling agency accounting systems to fiscal control systems or developing automated spreadsheets, ledgers and reports using accounting software packages or identifying budget trends and recommending budget realignments.

Note:

1. Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

At least six (6) months of the required experience must have involved the analysis of claims submitted utilizing a Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position should possess any of the following:

  • be detailed oriented with exceptional customer service skills
  • experience in a health care setting, and/or insurance company
  • proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • experience in a supervisory or lead role
