Main Purpose of Job

This position serves an accountant within the Retirement Processing Section of the Benefits Processing Division. The Benefits Processing Division is responsible for retiring approximately 6,000 members each year. Subsequent to retirement, a retiree's record may need to be revised to reflect changes to information provided to the Agency by the retiree's employer, to reflect changes requested by the retiree, or to correct errors in how the retirement record was initially created. This accountant will be responsible for analyzing, preparing, and approving revisions to retirement records as required by the above scenarios. These revisions must be calculated and processed to ensure that payments made to the retirees are 100% accurate. This position is not a standard accounting role (e.g. general ledger accounting). However, the position requires someone with strong financial skills who can quickly and accurately analyze retirement records, benefit payments, and information provided to determine what revisions, if any, are necessary to correct a retirement record. This position will provide the selected candidate with the opportunity to grow and develop their financial analysis skills and problem solving skills within the context of a defined benefits pension plan with 193,000 active members, 156,000 payees receiving a monthly pension payment, and $49 billion dollars in assets.
