Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as the medical Deputy Health Officer for both the Allegany and Garrett County Health Departments. Job duties include providing medical oversight for multi-county health department programs, assist Health Officers in implementing State and local policies, and write standing orders, as well as doctor's orders for individuals. This position will assist in assessing community health needs and guiding multi-county health department programs to meet those needs; Provide consultation on medical issues to both staffs and the medical community, including medical guidance in the event of a disease outbreak or other public health emergency; and, supervise staff and provide backup for Health Officers as needed. This position will spend approximately 50% of time with Allegany County Health Department and 50% with Garrett County Health Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidate must possess a Degree in medicine from an accredited college or university and a license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland. In addition to the license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland, applicants MUST either possess a master's degree in public health and at least 2 years experience in the field of public health; OR at least 5 years experience in the field of public health.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. **Please be sure to include a copy of your current licensure with your completed application.**
