Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional management service position which reports to the Assistant State Superintendent for the Division of Curriculum Assessment and Accountability (DCAA) responsible for providing leadership in the conceptualization, management, and implementation of programs and initiatives that reflect current and emerging departmental and division priorities.

POSITION DUTIES

Provides leadership and support in the conceptualization, management and implementation of the State Standards and associated assessments and to the high school Career and College Readiness (CCR) Program; manages the human, temporal and fiscal resources, in coordination with other DCAA directors on implementation of key annual projects regarding the Maryland Assessment programs, Instructional Technology, Instructional Programs and Teacher Professional Development; serves as primary contact for interdepartmental programs, projects, and initiatives requiring DCAA input and representation in science/environmental science and social studies, disciplinary literacy, STEM program facilitation, and CCR program implementation;  facilitates support for school-day STEM initiatives; supervises coordinators, specialists and staff in the curriculum units as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work preferably in Education, Education Supervision /Administration or a related field.   

EXPERIENCE:  Seven years of professional experience in coordinating or administering education programs or services. Experience supervising professional to include experience as a public school principal leading school improvement initiatives is preferred.  

NOTE: Possession of a doctorate in a field related to this position may be substituted for one year of the required experience.  Two additional years of experience directly related to the position may be substituted for the required Master’s degree

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of instructional programs that address science/environmental science and social studies, disciplinary literacy, STEM program facilitation; Knowledge of trends, research, policies, and issues affecting emerging priorities and concerns related to school improvement and school reform; skill in implementing, monitoring and evaluating education programs; skill in best practices project management and program leadership; ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations and standards that apply to instructional programs; ability to organize and manage multiple tasks; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively with staff, local school systems and the public; ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment in making decisions.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Proof of eligibility to work in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act and travel throughout the State are required.  Any misrepresentation of academic or experience requirements for this position may result in non-selection or termination of employment.
