Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to organize and oversee the production of MCE products in the Sew Plant #104 at Maryland Correctional Institution for Women in Jessup.  The Plant Manager has overall responsibility for plant operations and manages the work of all industries' personnel (inmates) through subordinate MCE Supervisors.

POSITION DUTIES

The Plant Manager is responsible for supervising Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE) Textile employees as well as an inmate work force in the operation of the Apparel Manufacturing and Textiles at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women (MCI-W) Sew Plant. These duties include but are not limited to:

   

·         Plan and schedule production operations; coordinate the delivery of finished products to customers

·          Determine and control quality standards and quantity of production; establish economic

production standards

·         Plan for and implement the production of new or modified products in response to frequently changing market trends and customer needs;

·          Estimates material costs and requirements

·          Guide and instruct MCE Supervisors in the production of trade items on various equipment; and inspects shop facilities to determine efficiency of operations and training for inmates in adherence to policies and regulations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

EXPERIENCE

Five (5) years of experience in apparel manufacturing, textiles or related field.

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience involving the training and supervision of employees in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge of apparel manufacturing and production methods from sourcing raw materials to cutting (Patternmaking, cutting, sewing and quality control)

Knowledge of production machinery. (Textile machines – Sewing Threading, knitting, cutting; needle exchange, oiling; Embroidery machines – Threading, needle exchange, oiling; textile and garment pressers - Steam Irons/Pressing tables

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Office Suite.

Experience troubleshooting mechanical problems that hinder the flow of production is not required, but is a plus.

Higher education in textile-related fields is desired

Specific educational requirements and other selection standards are set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code and are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01.

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
