Main Purpose of Job

This is an at will position which will function as Superintendent and provide leadership for a secure committed program. Responsible for the overall day to day operations of the facility, including safety and security, programming, personnel, inventory, budget & physical plant management of the facility in accordance with Department. The Superintendent is also responsible for coordinating the implementation of operational functions involving medical, education, dietary and case management staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:   High School diploma or G. E. D certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation. 

EXPERIENCE:  Eight years of experience providing supervision and guidance to youths in a juvenile facility or juvenile services community program for at-risk youth or in a correctional setting.  Two years of this experience must have involved exercising supervisory responsibility over other staff providing services to youth.  

NOTE:   An Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.  A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or the social or behavioral sciences from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of 2 years of progressive supervisory/managerial responsibilities in upper management in a juvenile or correctional setting is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.   Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
