Introduction

The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System.  The System is a multi-employer, public employees’ benefit retirement system composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with additional plan components, covering approximately 200,000 active members and more than 150,000 retires and beneficiaries.

The Maryland State Retirement Agency is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as Senior Portfolio Manager in its Investment Division. 

This is a Management Service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

The Senior Portfolio Manager will be part of the fixed income team, and will assist in sourcing, evaluating, recommending and monitoring of investments in the fixed income and credit portfolios. This position will perform regular reviews and evaluations of managers, including performance attribution and exposure analysis; participate in meetings with prospective managers; assist with due diligence on new investments; assist in the process of reviewing and negotiating fund documentation; actively source investment opportunities and generate recommendations; perform quantitative modeling research projects; assist in the preparation of presentation materials for Investment Committee meetings; collaborate with the CIO, Deputy CIO, Managing Directors and other Sr. Portfolio Managers to formulate macroeconomic views that can be applied in the management of the total portfolio.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Math, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or other relevant fields of study.

Experience:  Five years of professional fixed income investment experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

* CFA designation 

* Master’s degree in Math, Science, Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration or similar field of study. 

*Software proficiency:  Advanced Excel user.  Knowledge of Bloomberg and other software relevant to the requirements of the position.
