Introduction

This is a volunteer unpaid summer internship, which aims to provide substantive project involvement, activities and/or research sufficient to justify the award of course credit if requested. We encourage flexibility and attention to the quality of the experience; attendance at job-related workshops and training opportunities; involvement with professional organizations; project- oriented assignments; mentoring and the ability to work flexible part-time schedules and/or telework. The internship will take place between June 2017 and August 2017. The specific start date, end date, hours and schedule will be determine in collaboration between the intern and supervisor based on mutual needs.

POSITION DUTIES

The Office of Communications Intern will have the opportunity to assist the staff in public relations, graphic design and communication projects. Every effort will be made to expose interns to all facets of public relations, as well as place them in areas of interest. Duties will include writing, editing and distributing media advisories, press releases, tax tips and feature articles. Interns will assists with employee publications; design and create posters and flyers for Comptroller events, contact media via telephone and e-mails to market agency stories and events. Other duties include attending fairs and festivals; reading local newspapers for pertinent articles, pasting and clipping agency related news articles, conducting research and completing other tasks as assigned. Interns will attend press events, staff meetings, and other pertinent meetings. Intern will be assigned to other staff members to work on designated projects.

PLEASE NOTE: This position will work at least three(3)days per week for at least 8 hours a day during the summer, from June through August 2017.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified Candidates will meet the following criteria:

  • Entering their junior year in Fall 2017 
  • A declared major in Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting or Graphic Arts
