Introduction
This is a Special Appointment position at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions.
The incumbent will work at the pleasure of the appointing authority. This position is considered essential personnel (required to report during emergencies and closures) and scheduled to work on-call on a rotating basis.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Some of the duties for this position include:
· Provides training and limited supervision of maintenance staff and inmate personnel.
· Assists with inspection of work in progress and finished products for adherence to established standards.
· Completes general repairs, construction projects and various maintenance assignments.
· Compares cost of completed jobs with original cost estimates and reviews/approves contractor invoices.
· Assists the preparation of requests for purchase, rental or lease.
· Adjusts, maintains and makes minor repairs to HVAC equipment and other modern electronically operated control devices.
· Inspects shop and work areas for adherence to safety, sanitary and security regulations.
· Assists in overseeing a preventative maintenance program for a wide variety of shop tools, machinery and equipment.
· Reads blueprints, tables, graphs and charts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience: Three years of experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including two years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
