POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent for this position is responsible for the receipt, sorting and distribution of incoming mail for the Comptroller of Maryland. The incumbent will also process outgoing mail to the US Postal Service for delivery to taxpayers, vendors, State employees and State Retirees. This position requires the use of computerized high-speed mail machinery to process the outgoing mail. Additional duties of the Support Services Unit include unloading incoming furniture and supplies from vendors and the moving and relocation of supplies and furniture.

PLEASE NOTE: The bulk of the work assigned to this position requires the individual to lift and move heavy furniture, equipment and materials weighing in excess of 100 pounds. Candidate will be required to demonstrate this ability using pallet jacks and hand trucks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: None 

NOTE: Experience in operating, adjusting and maintaining production equipment used in mail or print shop may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to learn the safe and proper use, adjustment and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations.
  • Ability to maintain records and logs to document work production and inventory.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Only applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications for this recruitment will be considered for this opportunity. The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience. It is essential that you submit complete and accurate information on your application in order to determine if you meet the qualifications as specified above. Due to the nature of this list, all qualified applicants are placed on an unranked list of candidates and will remain active on this list for at least one year.  

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
