Introduction

The Maryland State Archives in Annapolis is dedicated to preserving Maryland’s records and history. The Archives’ Summer Internship Program provides opportunities for students interested in the application of computer technology to archival and library science, history, museum studies, and document conservation to gain valuable experience in the field.

Main Purpose of Job

Interns will engage in a variety of activities related to the designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications and websites.

Application development at the Archives is centered around object oriented, database driven desktop and web applications.

Interns must be: 

-Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy

- Team oriented with good communication and customer service skills

- Able to work independently

- Willing to seek help when needed

- Able to carefully lift a 40lb box

POSITION DUTIES

Interns are expected to work 35 hours per week, starting on May 30 through August 7.

Interns will assist in the creation and maintenance of in-house desk top and website applications.   Interns must complete required program reports and evaluations.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

In order to be considered for an internship, applicant must meet one of the following education requirements:

EDUCATION
-Be a current high school student and able to get a State Work Permit,
-A current college student, undergraduate or graduate level.
-Recent college graduate within the last year.
 
AND

-Be a current resident of the state of Maryland or an enrolled student in a Maryland school.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant technical coursework is preferred, but is not required for consideration.  Please list all coursework relevant to Information Technology Majors, including but not limited to: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Game Design, Web and Application development in the application section titled “Specialized Training or Classes Relevant to the Job”  

Knowledge of VB.NET, ASP.NET, Javascript, HTML, and/or MS SQL Server is preferred. Any additional programming experience in other languages is also a plus.  Please list any and all experience with these in terms of credits earned or project hours worked in the application section titled “Specialized Training or Classes Relevant to the Job”.

Code samples with an explanation of the project’s purpose and letters of recommendation from a faculty member from your current or most recent school will be considered as well.
