Main Purpose of Job

The Director of the Office of Oral Health (OOH) is a senior level dentist who provides clinical and public health leadership in the promotion of oral health in Maryland. The Director must hold an active Maryland dental license and have training and expertise in public health dentistry. S/he is responsible for providing experienced technical leadership in directing the work of the OOH, including guiding clinical decisions, developing technical guidelines, formulating training recommendations, and providing policy consultations as need. The incumbent is responsible for strategic planning of the OOH's portfolio, as well as coordination of oral health-related activities across the Maryland Department of Health (MDH). The Director ensures accountability and integrity of all fiscal matters, personnel actions, and procurement activities of the OOH, and s/he is responsible for the coordination and implementation of multiple programs and grants within the OOH. The Director interfaces on a daily basis with the CCD Bureau; and frequently with PHPA Leadership. The incumbent functions as the Principal Investigator for federal grants, and s/he seeks additional funding sources to increase oral health-related programming throughout the state.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified applicants must possess a current license as a Dentist from the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners and at least three years of experience managing a public health oral health program.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have demonstrated public health experience at either the federal, state or local level.  The successful application should have at least three years of management experience including responsibility for developing budgets, monitoring expenditures, and staff recruitment. A master's degree in public health or a related field is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dentist from the State Board of Dental Examiners, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215-2299.

2. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess or be eligible to obtain controlled substances registration certificates as issued by the Federal government and the State of Maryland in order to prescribe narcotic medication.

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
