Job Summary:

 

The Team Leader is responsible for coordinating and coaching the team in their operative work towards their team’s targets.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • 5S: Leads by example: Sets the standard, a place for everything and everything in its place, actively practices sorting, storage, shining, standardizing and sustaining.
  • Respond or ensure there is a response to the team’s call for assistance.
  • Ensure that team information is up to date, all defects are communicated to source. Carries out defect investigation and document the findings, ensure full team member involvement and complete standardization of countermeasures.
  • Communicates Variability Reduction Team (VRT)/Warranty Feedback to the team assists analysis and identification of containment and permanent corrective action.
  • Uses standardized work documentation to secure all members follow the standard, ensures containment activities are implemented and maintained until effective countermeasures are in place.
  • Secure knowledge from Business Management System (BMS) to team members about new, updated and ended procedures that concern that team.
  • Responsible for updating the Quality Process System (QPS) documentation (with input from the support functions), this includes being a part of rebalancing. 
  • Ensure preventative maintenance activities that should be handled by the team are conducted.
  • Ensure containment activities are implemented and maintained until effective countermeasures are in place.
  • Track the disturbances and follow the countermeasures.
  • Review scrap cost performance with the team.
  • Support and assist identification of a root cause.
  • Review the team’s material consumption.
  • Use/Lead Problem Solving Checklist/Sheet.
  • Participate in Kaizen Workshops.
  • Lead/Coach team in self-assessment step-plan.
  • Ensure execution of the non-operational process so the Teams have the relevant KPIs
  • Conduct the confirmation process.
  • Ensure that the team board is used and updated on a daily basis and focusing on daily activities.
  • Confirm that daily manning and reports to Supervisor any likely concerns. Start-up the shift
  • Manage daily rotation for team members and supports the Supervisor in people planning within the production area.
  • Carry out training of team members to standard.
  • Maintains self-skill level on all the Teams jobs/balances (where applicable).
  • Build on the good relationship between the team members.
  • Give positive feedback on wanted behaviors and good moral performance and leads by example.
  • Relieve the team member to conduct team tasks.
  • Communicate important information to the team members.
  • Ensure effective daily communication, shift to shift and Team Leader to Supervisor reporting is maintained.
  • Hold and drive team meetings according to specified agenda.
  • Participate in calibration meeting and give feedback to the team members.
  • Continuously focus on safety behavior, react on safety abnormalities and risks, lead by example.
  • Fill in the green cross and follow-up actions.
  • Coach team members following waste handling procedures and lead by example.
  • Coach team members, contribute to minimizing energy consumption within the work area.
  • Operative responsible for delivering the required activities to ensure that products and services are delivered on time, to quality standards.
  • Ensure specifications are within required specifications, both personally and by training and coaching the team to deliver the overall team targets.
  • To act by, communicate and role model the Volvo Cars Values and company philosophy in line with P&M’s five working principles and behaviors.
  • Actively contribute to the implementation of the Volvo Car Manufacturing System (VCMS) in your team and work area.
  • Your key responsibilities are defined by VCMS system and the behaviors that are required by all of our leaders within P&M.

 

Key Competencies/Abilites:
  • Provide the right environment for your team to work together effectively with good communication and co-operation both with each other and with relevant support functions.
  • Ensure the team clearly understands the company direction and role in supporting this through effective usage of the Policy Deployment process (includes mission, vision, strategy, targets, rules and regulations).
  • Be responsible for running the Performance Management System for the team including preparation of performance reports and team boards. Reviewing performance with the team and taking the necessary actions in case of deviations (with the agreement of your supervisor). Recognizes individual efforts and achievements within team structure.
  • Continuously develop the competence of the team through training, on-the-job coaching and 121 development.  You are the main trainer and coach for the team. The team leader secures this by knowing, applying and executing all team jobs/balances (not necessary applicable for specialized tasks which requires certain trainings/certificates).
  • Actively role model and promote that the relevant laws, regulations and procedures are followed by all teams members.
  • Work within existing standards, highlight potential improvements and support those improvements within your area, to remove variability and thus create stability for you and your teams, providing greater opportunity for your teams to achieve their targets.
  • Role model the usage of standards in your daily work and challenge and coach others when standards are not applied appropriately.
  • Consistently use the visualization standards in order to provide transparency on performance and challenges in your area.
  • Ensure your teams understand their responsibility toward the customer and that everybody feels accountable to deliver to their customer on time and to quality.
  • Ensure that your team has, at all times, the required support available to answer ANDON calls in order to deliver in line quality. You are the main responsible to take care of ANDON calls within your area.
  • Encourage your teams to highlight problems, deviations, opportunities to improve and potential solutions.
  • Ensure you and your team own the actions within their control and ensure timely progress of those actions required to resolve the issue and/or create the improvement.
  • Support the development of your team’s Lean capability in order to understand their process and what good process performance looks like in your area.
  • Provide a safe and open learning environment where you and your teams can ask, at Gemba, challenging questions and generate ideas in order to identify areas of improvement in all aspects of Quality, Delivery, Financials, Improvements, People and Sustainability (QDFIPS).
  • Support your team members in order to achieve the QDFIPS performance targets in your area and support them to contribute to continuous improvement activities.
  • Support your team in order to implement VCMS tools and methods in your area. 

 

Job Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • WorkKeys:
    • Applied Math: Level 3 or higher
    • Graphic Literacy:  Level 4 or higher
    • Workplace Documents: Level 4 or higher
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be able to legally work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job such as lifting and moving up to 50lbs., standing for extended periods, bending, squatting or kneeling.
  • Availability to work any shift (weekends, holidays and overtime).
  • The ability to read and interpret manufacturing specifications or work instructions.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical and satisfactory background check.
